Description

Tancrède Perrot, better known as Tanc, laid the foundation of his artistic career during the 1990s in the Parisian graffiti scene. Around the turn of the millennium, he turned his focus to working on canvas in the studio. He attaches great importance, as a writer, to being an artist, and, as an artist, to being a writer. Sometimes the link between the contrasts is self-evident, and a dripping, fully inscribed canvas transmogrifies into a work of Abstract Expressionism. But that is less wizardry than the adroit excavation of subliminal, forever inherent similarities. When creating his works, Tanc abandons himself fully to the creative situation, absorbing vibrations and acting as their seismograph—spontaneity and emotion paired with abstraction and fragmentation determine his style. For the Urban Art Biennale in 2017, Tanc transfigured a wall at Völklinger Hütte with the in-situ work, Völklingen Sunrise, in which he captured his morning mood during a visit to the industrial city.
