YZ, a strange pseudonym, but not so unusual in a country where other well-known artists only call themselves JR or C215. However, it is not her initials that artist Yseult Digan uses, but a short form that is phonetically reminiscent of "Eyes", and thus also of Digan's first major street art project. Under the title "Open your eyes", she painted and put up posters of an oversized iconic face in silhouette on the walls of Paris. The places where these works were placed were marked on the city map and connected with lines, creating the same motif once again. Now YZ has left the bold campaign form behind and focussed on classical-looking painting. In graduated shades of grey or black to transparent, as in a charcoal drawing, she realistically transfers historical photo motifs to wrapping paper. YZ wallpapers these images in public spaces, where they begin to merge symbiotically with the wall structures. Women from another century, as the title of one of her groups of works suggests, confront us today. "One of the most important aspects of street art is the idea that the surfaces used are also interesting as such. They provide structures and textures that flow into the works as an additional layer of meaning. Their reproduction can thus become part of a gallery work", the British critic Cedar Lewisohn has stated

YZ, ein merkwürdiges Pseudonym, aber so ungewöhnlich auch wieder nicht, in einem Land, wo andere bekannte Künstler sich nur JR oder C215 nennen. Es sind jedoch nicht ihre Initialen, die die Künstlerin Yseult Digan nutzt, sondern eine Kurzform, die phonetisch an "Eyes" – Augen – erinnern soll, und damit auch an Digans erstes großes Street Art-Projekt. Unter dem Titel "Open your eyes" malte und plakatierte sie ein überdimensioniertes ikonisches Gesicht im Schattenriss auf die Mauern von Paris. Die Orte, an denen diese Werke angebracht waren, ergaben, auf dem Stadtplan markiert und mit Linien verbunden, das gleiche Motiv noch einmal. Jetzt hat YZ die plakative Kampagnenform hinter sich gelassen und ihr Augenmerk auf klassisch anmutende Malerei gerichtet. In abgestuften Grautönen oder schwarz bis transparent, wie bei einer Kohlezeichnung, bringt sie historische Fotomotive realistisch zu Packpapier. Diese Bilder tapeziert YZ in den öffentlichen Raum, wo sie mit den Wandstrukturen symbiotisch zu verschmelzen beginnen. Frauen eines anderen Jahrhunderts, so sinngemäß der Titel einer ihrer Werkgruppen, treten uns heutigen Betrachtern darin gegenüber. "Einer der wichtigsten Aspekte in der Street Art ist die Idee, dass die genutzten Oberflächen auch als solche interessant sind. Sie liefern Strukturen und Texturen, die als eine zusätzliche Bedeutungsebene in die Werke einfließen. Deren Reproduktion kann somit Teil einer Galeriearbeit werden", hat der britische Kritiker Cedar Lewisohn angemerkt.
