In 2019, protests against a metro fare increase in Santiago, Chile, developed into a mass socio-political movement that spread across the whole country. Artist Voluspa Jarpa explores this uprising against social inequality and the violent response of the state. Jarpa uses a combination of maps, statistics, and drawings — including X-ray images — to reveal the extent of state violence. It becomes clear that security forces deliberately caused eye injuries by aiming rubber bullets at protesters' heads. A total of 460 people suffered eye injuries, some of them severe.
