The two works by Lynn Hershman Leeson challenge physical norms and defy stereotypical notions of femininity. Rather than presenting a realistic image, the X-ray view reveals a utopian body at the intersection of human and machine, where organs and tissue coexist with gears and conveyor belts. Instead of developing in the womb, foetuses appear to nestle in the stomach. These cyborg-like women embody an expanded, utopian femininity.
