Description

As a youth between the poles of comics and graffiti, Colin Kaesekamp of Munich found his way into the world of art. As Cone—because graffiti artists leave their legal name behind—he is developing an extensive oeuvre based on designing figurative characters by means of progressive deformation. His love of the do-it-yourself attitude, “which is often found in the fields of comics, illustration, graffiti, and urban art,” comes into it as well. Since 2011 Cone has been a member of the famous collective The Weird and uses the name of the group as an attributive added to his name. Kaesekamp came to Saarbrücken to study communication design at the HBK Saar, where he is now a lecturer. He participated Völklingen’s Urban Art Biennale already in 2015 and 2019. This “local hero” nevertheless has an international orientation with exhibitions from Texas to Tokyo. His diptych The Lie / The Truth is from the same series— The Grey Series—as his mural on Futterstrasse in Saarbrücken, and it combines façade paint, ink, and acrylic as material references to his working fields: wall, paper, and canvas. Two tangled narratives: The Lie and The Truth—they are difficult to keep apart.
