Description

Belgian artist Caroline Vercruysse has been observing and documenting graffiti in Belgium since 2009, photographing graffiti on all kinds of surfaces almost compulsively. She finds a great deal of charm and poetry in these illegal and spontaneous inscriptions. Through writing, drawing, video, mail art and photography, she brings her unique vision to this form of expression. In spring 2025, she spent several weeks spotting and photographing freight trains across the Netherlands, using her camper as both studio and home. Back in Belgium, she sent the curator Jasper van Es a series of postcards featuring her own photos as stamps and handwritten letters as diary and reflections — turning documentation into a poetic exchange.
