In unison or as one? Parailleurs - A participatory dance project at the World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte
Attention dance enthusiasts: following the huge success of R·ONDE·S in 2025, Le Carreau, Scène nationale de Forbach, and the Völklinger Hütte are collaborating once again as part of the European Interreg project GRACE to create a truly special dance experience. On Saturday, 20 June 2026, OPENING NIGHT – a holistic work of art combining dance, live DJ sets and film projections – will be performed on the ore square. The artistic director is choreographer Olivia Grandville, and once again, dance enthusiasts aged 15 and above will have the opportunity to take part in a choreographic mentoring project and participate in a collective creative experience.
The performance event combines a dance solo by Martin Gil, inspired by the energy of Argentine rock music, poetic video projections, and a live DJ set by Benoît de Villeneuve and Benjamin Morando. The highlight of the evening will be an excerpt from En même temps, Olivia Grandville’s new work, which will premiere at the end of June at the Festival de Marseille. With nine performers, Olivia Grandville explores the ambivalence of mass choreography and precise unison – the simultaneous execution of identical movements by several dancers. For the choreographer, this form is complex, seductive and, at the same time, dangerously ambivalent.
In this context, a group of around fifty amateurs of all ages and backgrounds, with and without prior dance experience, will be invited to take part in a workshop exploring the choreographic principles at work in the piece, entitled Parailleurs. As in the piece itself, the focus will be on navigating the differences between sharing a common rhythm and marking a beat. This work, spread over three weekends at the World Heritage Site, aims to present a performance of this participatory project as part of this evening’s programme.

The performance event OPENING NIGHT is part of the Interreg project GRACE (Greater Region Artistic and Cultural Education), in which 25 cultural institutions and stakeholders from the SaarLorBenelux region are working together to develop new forms of cultural education that involve artists.
