In his photo reportage Anamnesis, created between 2010 and 2012, Ukrainian artist Maxim Dondyuk shows the devastating consequences of the tuberculosis epidemic in his home country, especially in the east, where poverty, war and the collapse of the healthcare system are further exacerbating the plight of those affected. Dondyuk's photographs and video documentation reveal how tuberculosis mostly affects the most vulnerable: children, homeless people, prisoners. He focuses on the personal fates of these individuals, telling stories of isolation and hopelessness, but also of the brave medical professionals who fight the disease day after day. Although it has fallen out of the public eye due to the war with Russia, the fight against tuberculosis remains a burning issue.
