The Norwegian documentary photographer Johnny Haglund (*1965) has photographed many mine workers all over the world.
For more than hundred years, underground coal seams have been burning in Jharia in India. It is almost impossible to extinguish the fires. Johnny Haglund visited the region and captured life with the flames. Despite heat and smoke, people including children steal coal to provide for their families. The smouldering coal fires might burn for thousands of years more.
